The new "X-Men" film, "Apocalypse," will be featuring a new character, as so many have come and gone over the past several films. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this time it's Betsy Braddock, or Psylocke (as her character in the film is portrayed) which be played by "The Newsroom" actress Olivia Munn.

The casting of Olivia Munn for the role was announced by film director Bryan Singer via his Twitter and Instagram account.

The character was originally created for the British "Captain Britain" series, which she appeared in through the '70s and '80s, but she transitioned over to the "X-Men" in 1987's "Uncanny X-Men" No. 213, as reported by the Hollywood Reporter. Her character has been both a mainstay for the X-Men team, and she appeared in the spin-offs, which included "Exiles" and "X-Force."

According to the New York Daily News, the character of Betsy Braddock was actually a part of the 2006 film "X-Men: The Last Stand." Although it was minor role played by Mei Melacon at the time.

Olivia Munn is perhaps most well-known for her roles on Comedy Central's "The Daily Show" (as a correspondent) and as a main cast member in the HBO series "The Newsroom," which she played Sloane Sabbith.

Some other films Munn has appeared in include "Date Night," "Iron Man 2," "Magic Mike" and "Deliver Us from Evil." Along with the "X-Men" movie, Munn is currently working in production with the "Ride Along" sequel.

"X-Men: Apocalypse" will take place in 1983 and focus on the "Origin" stories of the mutants, completing the trilogy which started with "X-Men: First Class."

According to Hero Complex, Psylocke was created by Chris Claremont and Herb Trimpe. The film will also feature some old characters, recast as their younger selves, including Nightcrawler (Kodi Smit-McPhee), Jean Grey (Sophie Turner) and Cyclops (Tye Sheridan).
