Beyoncé recently participated in a Q&A session following a screening of the music videos from her new self-titled visual album at School of Visual Arts in New York.

Queen Bey shared that becoming a mother affected her outlook on life, as well as the direction of her music.

"It's interesting how motherhood changes you and it changes your perspective on life," she said. "I took all the things that I wanted to change about myself and all the things I wanted to share, and I put it into this record."

Beyoncé also took time to answer some of the questions that were submitted via Instagram -- one of the questions was regarding her releasing a surprise album.

"I just got off the stage, I had a glass of wine and my cousin Angie was like, 'Are you alright?' because I was talking to myself and I was terrified," she said. "I was so scared. I had already gone through all the horrible ways it could go in my mind ... I saw it live on iTunes and I waited for the first comment. Then I work up the next morning and ... [Breaks into dance]."

In addition, the singer said that there is a specific message she wanted to deliver with her latest project.

"More than the music, I'm proud of myself as a woman," said Beyoncé. "The biggest message is owning your imperfections and all the things that make you interesting because I refuse to allow someone to put me in anybody's box."

The singer's fifth studio album "Beyoncé," which includes 14 songs and 17 videos, was released on Dec. 13, debuting at No. 1 on the Billboard charts. The self-titled album features collaborations with her husband Jay-Z, Justin Timberlake, Drake and her daughter, Blue Ivy. It has sold 617,000 units in the U.S. and more than 1 million albums worldwide in its first week, breaking her first-week sales record.
