"Fast and the Furious 7" continues to enjoy box office success weeks after it opened in theaters. With that, talks of what's next for the crew of Dominic Toretto have circulated recently and if rumors were to be believed, then fans of the franchise would not only see the eighth film, but also a spinoff that would feature Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson's CIA Luke Hobbs as the lead.

MTV News initially reported that Johnson might not return for the eighth movie. His contract with Universal Pictures was on a film-by-film basis only and the set-up allowed him to say no should he choose not to join the sequel.

Even Cinema Blend noted of the possibility that "The Rock" could be taken out of the next film as producers have decided that his story line has moved on. It also added that Kurt Russell's character -- Mr. Nobody -- could be the possible replacement to Hobbs in the next film.

But the wrestler-turned-actor has finally shot down rumors and confirmed that he would reprise his role in the upcoming "Fast and the Furious 8." The actor was in a press conference for his latest film -- "San Andreas" -- when he confirmed the news.

Johnson simply told the reporter who asked him if he would be seen in the next movie with, "Of Course. It can't go on without Hobbs."

His CIA character was introduced in the franchise in the fifth movie and has since been a key character in the franchise, which also offers comedic relief from time to time.

If his appearance in "Fast and the Furious 8" is not enough, fans could potentially see more of Hobbs in his own spinoff movie. Reports have come up that producers of the franchise have been looking to have an offshoot film for Johnson after the sixth or seventh iteration.

During the media session, the 43-year-old actor also revealed that he had been in meetings with the studio about the spinoff.

"We are all interested in it," shared Johnson. "I just had a big conversation with the studio. So we'll see. I still think for me personally we've created a little bit of space for him in 7 and the gauge is set for what the audience will want. That's my take on it, you know, but a lot of other people have to have input."

Until the spinoff film gets finalized, fans of Hobbs could see him in action again in the eighth film of the franchise. "Fast and the Furious 8" would hit theaters on April 14, 2017.
