Roger Federer and Maria Sharapova will look to move one step closer to winning the coveted Grand Slam title as they head on to face their respective opponents in Day 6 of the 2015 French Open.

Federer is set to go against Damir Dzumhur of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Friday.

The 33-year-old Swiss advanced to the next round after he defeated Spanish Marcel Granollers 6-2, 7-6(1), 6-3 in the second round of the tournament. Federer struggled early in the second and third sets of the match, but the second-seeded Swiss managed to bounce back to take the win.

The 17-time Grand Slam titleholder has had the chance to go up against Granollers in the 2014 US Open, but his match against the Dzumhur will be the first time he will face the Bosnian.

"I don't know him very well," said Federer via ATP World Tour. "I might even go so far to say I have actually never seen him play before. It will be an interesting match-up clearly, and a different approach to the match I played today."

The 23-year-old Bosnian defeated Marcos Baghdatis of Cyprus 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 6-2 in the previous round to arrange a showdown against Federer. Dzumhur is excited to face Federer for an interesting reason.

"I watched Federer playing the semis of, I think, Wimbledon with Andy Roddick," the player revealed via ATP World Tour. "That was the first time I was cheering for him. Since then he's been my idol. I remember him since I was 10 or 11, and now I have this opportunity to play against him."

Meanwhile, defending champion Maria Sharapova will go up against 22nd seed Samantha Stosur on Friday. The 28-year-old won against fellow Russian Vitalia Diatchenko 6-3, 6-1 in the third round to advance once again.

Sharapova was nursing a cold when she went against her compatriot Diatchenko. The five-time Grand Slam titleholder did not stay long for the post-match interview and explained she needed to get well for her next match.

"I'm getting better. I've go to do what I have to do," the player told BBC Sport. "For me right now it's really about recovery and just being healthy for the next round."

The Russian player dominated Stosur 14 times out of the 16 matches. Sharapova defeated the Australian in the fourth round of the 2014 French Open. But even with that record, Sharapova is not taking her match against Stosur in stride.

"The spin that she's able to create from her forehand and her serve, she has one of the best kick serves in the game," said the 28-year-old to ESPN. "She's really able to put that power into it and kick. There are a lot of untraditional things that she does, but I enjoy that challenge."

Stosur seems to echo that sentiment.

"Look, playing Maria is always a big challenge for me," said the 31-year-old Australian. "No matter what surface it's on, I don't have a very good record at all. I've got to be ready to have to play as well, if not better, than what I have been hoping."
