In what appears to be a scene straight of a country and western outlaw movie, Country Music singer Randy Howard has died following an incident on Tuesday night involving a bounty hunter.

Howard, 65, was at his home in Lynchburg, Tennessee, when bondsman Jackie Shell came knocking with an arrest warrant, according to an article on The Wrap.

Apparently, Howard was being served the warrant for a failure to appear in court involving his fourth DUI charge. This warrant also cited charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of a firearm under the influence of alcohol and driving while on a suspended license.

In a statement to WSMV, an NBC affiliate in Nashville, Howard's neighbor Terry Dotson described him as a giving person, or someone who would give you the shirt off his back if you needed it.

"One morning I went over there to take him to court and he wasn't ready," Dotson told WSMV. "He said, 'Well, I'll call them in a couple hours.' And that's when I got mad at him. I said, 'Look, we're supposed to be there at 9 o'clock.'"

Josh DeVine, a spokesperson for the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, explained that Shell, who is an A Plus Bail Bonding employee, entered Howard's home. He was also met with gunfire by Howard before he started to fire back. Howard died in the skirmish and Shell was later taken to Erlanger Hospital in Chattanooga.

Shell's injuries caused him to have to undergo surgery for treatment of his wounds, according to NBC News.

Howard is best known as a key member of the outlaw country movement that took place in the '80s, with the likes of Hank Williams Jr., Merle Haggard, Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson. He had previously released two albums, one with Warner Bros., and another with Atlantic.
