The next iPhone, likely called the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus, might be scheduled for a Sept. 25 release, according to TechRadar.

The iPhone 6S could also have an upgraded front-facing camera.

The Sept. 25 release date of the iPhone 6S would be about a week after last year's iPhone 6, which was released on Sept. 19.

The iPhone 6S could come in new colors, including a rose gold and pink handset. The handset itself is expected to get stronger too, avoiding any possibility of the phone bending. Apple might decide to use the same lightweight and strong Series 7000 aluminum alloy. That is the same material they use for the new Apple Watch.

With the popularity of larger-screened phones, the two sizes of the iPhone 6S will likely be the same size as the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus, 4.7 inches and 5.5 inches. There have been rumors that a third model called the iPhone 6C could come with a small 4.0-inch screen, but that seems less likely.

The screen is expected to be protected in some manner. It is up to Apple to pick how they will protect the screen, whether they use a sapphire display or a new screen protection system from Corning called Project Phire, according to Mac World.

Sources spoke to the Chinese site Feng and revealed that the iPhone 6S could have a 1080p display and the iPhone 6S Plus would be upgraded to a 2K display.

The front-facing camera might get a boost to 1080p video and be equipped with a flash. These hints appear within the iOS 9 code.

The rear-facing camera could be greatly improved. Not only will it likely be upgraded from 8 megapixels (MP) to 12 MP, it also might deliver DSLR-quality images. Apple recently acquired a company that makes cameras for smartphones that are capable of producing these DSLR quality images.

iOS 9 will help all iPhones improve their battery life, but Apple is not solely focused on improving battery life in the next iPhone. Instead, Apple wants the phone to be more powerful and have more features. For instance, the next iPhone will have the newest A9 processor, which is expected to be 20 percent more powerful than the A8 processor found in the iPhone 6.

Finally, the iPhone 6S is expected to get twice as much RAM, going from 1 GB to 2GB of RAM.

Apple typically keeps information on their upcoming products very secret. Rumors and leaks are the only way to keep up with the next iPhone until Apple makes an official announcement sometime late this summer.
