The New York Giants are coming off their worst season in the Tom Coughlin era.

Last year 'Big Blue' finished the season 6-10, good enough for third place in the NFC East behind the Dallas Cowboys and Philadelphia Eagles. Despite winning the Super Bowl in 2011, the Giants have missed the playoffs five of the last six years. One of the biggest reasons the Giants have lacked consistency is because of their offensive line.

Eli Manning, who is in the final year of his contract, was constantly under pressure last season. Manning has been sacked 67 times the last two years, and the Giants rushing attack has been mediocre. The Giants rushing attack has ranked 23rd and 30th, respectively, the last two seasons because of the below average offensive line.

To make matters worse, offensive tackle Will Beatty is out with a muscle tear.

The majority of high profile free agents have already been signed this off-season, but the Giants still have some options left. The two most notable offensive lineman left in free agency are Jake Long and Evan Mathis.

Long is a former No. 1 overall pick by the Miami Dolphins. Still just 30 years old, Long has been a great tackle in this league, but the St. Louis Rams chose to release him back in March. Long tore his ACL last season, but multiple teams, especially the Atlanta Falcons, have shown interest in him. The New York Post reported that the Giants recently took a second look at Long this off-season. It was also reported that Long was "medically cleared to play" by the Giants doctors on that second visit.

Coughlin is obviously aware that Long tore his ACL last season, but Long could be worth signing to a veterans minimum. With the exception of last season, Long only missed seven total games in his first six seasons.

Contract negotiations seem to be the driving force here. Long has also visited the Falcons and Denver Broncos over the last two weeks. The Broncos lost their left tackle, Ryan Clady, for the season, so this comes as no surprise. There's a good chance Long will be blocking for one of the Mannings this season.

If the Giants can't strike a deal with Long, they still have other options.

Evan Mathis is currently an unrestricted free agent after the Philadelphia Eagles released him in June. Mathis was widely regarded as the best guard in the NFL with the Eagles. In 2011, 2012 and 2013 Mathis only missed one game, but sprained his MCL last season. The Dolphins have shown interest in signing Mathis.

Mathis is a great run blocker, which is what the Giants need. NFL.com insists that Mathis would fit in with the Giants because of the similar system that Mathis ran with Andy Reid. Mathis has made the last two Pro Bowls. The Seattle Seahawks and Oakland Raiders could be good fits as well.

Other notable free agent offensive lineman include Gosder Cherilus, Anthony Collins and Rob Sims.
