The Xbox One is getting its own media remote, Microsoft announces on the Xbox News page.

"This remote is designed to help you listen, watch and switch among experiences instantly - allowing you to rule your entertainment," the Sony rival entices users of the Xbox One.

The stubby remote is said to have a soft silicon finish that has been designed to comfortably fit the user's hand, notes Microsoft. The device is in black and is rather simplified compared to its predecessor.

The Xbox One's media remote lets users control video playback for Blu-ray movies and streaming video on the game console, the product description reads. It also features a Back button and the OneGuide button which Microsoft says "provides one-touch, quick access to favorite TV shows and movies through the Xbox program guide."

"The Media Remote can also control TV/Receiver power and volume through Kinect, which uses IR blasting to send signals to your TV and/or receiver," adds the Xbox maker. What's even more is that the device also has motion-activated backlit buttons that illuminate the media remote, enabling easy use even in the dark.

Users of the Xbox One can get their hands on the media remote for $24.99 by early March in the US. The device will also roll out in other countries though Microsoft has not yet provided info regarding price and release date for Xbox One users outside of the US.

Xbox One's media remote first gained attention after Amazon Canada momentarily listed the previously not-yet-announced device online. According to Engadget, Amazon's Canadian website has taken down the page which lists the device as a "game" with a pending ESRB rating.

"The page wasn't up for long, but a Google Cache preserved the details: the above image, a $24.99 Canadian price tag ($22.69 in US currency) and a March 4th release date," reports Engadget.
