Canadian champ David Lemieux could burst the undefeated Gennady Golovkin's confidence at their middleweight unification match on Oct. 17 at the Madison Square Garden in New York.

Golden Boy Promotions Head Oscar De La Hoya stated that the International Boxing Federation titlist will not just defeat the World Boxing Association and International Boxing Organization king, but he will also squash "Triple G's" immediate plans concerning his boxing career, Boxing Scene reported.

"Golovkin's confidence level is very high, but he will suffer a hard return to reality on October 17. Golovkin cannot afford to look ahead because nobody has been beaten yet. Looking too far ahead can sometimes be very distracting," De La Hoya said.

The Kazakh warrior's intention of unifying the entire middleweight division was announced in July, per a separate Boxing Scene report, citing Tom Loeffler, the boxer's promoter. Since then, he and his camp focused their efforts and attention on this goal. They even started anticipating a match against the winner of the World Boxing Council title fight between Miguel Cotto and Saul "Canelo" Alvarez, as well as with the World Boxing Organization titlist Andy Lee. But for De La Hoya, "GGG" may not have the luxury of thinking those fights because for him, Lemieux will knock out the ferocious Kazakh, another Boxing Scene article of informed.

"This time Golovkin will be in front of David for David to land his big punches...I believe David will knock out Golovkin...'GGG' has not faced a strong fighter and a smart fighter like David Lemieux in his career," the Hall of Fame boxer-turned-promoter said.

Golovkin's disadvantage

Former middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins told Fight Hub that Golovkin's unbeaten record is actually a double-edged sword for him as it is the same thing that also makes him "vulnerable."

According to Hopkins, this undefeated record and the praises he is getting could make him "drunk" with success. Someday, he could eventually run into someone who could beat him for the first time, without him understanding fully how it happened.

However, in his interviews, knockout master "Triple G" seems to know the caliber of the fighter he is up against with, Boxing News noted.

"I respect David. I like his style. He's a very strong guy. He's a very dangerous guy," Golovkin said.

Thus, it may be safe for Golovkin's fans to know that their warrior is actually mentally prepared for this battle, especially with so much at stake. Aside from the three championship titles, the victor will fight for a fourth crown against the Cotto-Canelo bout winner immediately, as reportedly mandated by WBC.
