Tom Cruise is rumored to have not seen his 9-year-old daughter Suri in more than two years.

According to Yahoo News, some suspect the "Mission Impossible" star has largely been prevented from seeing the child he shares with ex-wife Katie Holmes because of his involvement with his Scientology religion.

"He doesn't seem interested in being part of Suri's day-to-day life," said a source. "Katie does her best to be a hands-on mom but there's no replacing her father. He hasn't been seen in public with his daughter in over two long years -- that's a fifth of her lifetime."

Former Scientology member Marc Headley added such behavior is not uncommon among ardent followers of the religion. Since his breakup with Holmes, Headley explained Cruise may now have major concerns his former in-laws might have been badmouthing his religion.

"It's possible Tom won't see Suri because he thinks Katie and her family are speaking negatively about him and Scientology," he insisted.

The Church of Scientology has recently come under increased scrutiny after former member and fellow Hollywood actress Leah Remini made several controversial claims about the religion in her newly released novel.

In one instance, Remini alleged both Tom and Katie had left Suri to cry on the bathroom floor when she was just a baby. She also hinted that she wasn't too surprised to hear about Cruise's estranged relationship with his daughter.

"The policy with the church is you can't be connected to someone who has committed a suppressive act -- which I have, Katie has," she said.

Meanwhile, church officials have adamantly denied Remini's claims, recently releasing a statement that countered, "It comes as no surprise that someone as self-absorbed as Leah Remini with an insatiable craving for attention would exploit her former faith as a publicity stunt by rewriting her history with it, including omitting that she was participating in a program to remain a Scientologist by her own choice, as she was on the verge of being expelled for her ethical lapses."
