Released in the U.S. last month as BlackBerry's first foray into the Android smartphone business, the Priv will debut in Vietnam on Dec. 5. This nugget of information is particularly useful to Priv owners who want to coat their handsets with 24K gold.

Karalux, a Vietnamese gift customization company, is more than happy to gold-plate your newly purchased handset. The Priv isn't exactly an easy device to modify since it comes with a slide display and physical QWERTY keyboard. However, after hours of tinkering, Karalux has announced that it will provide 24K gold-plating of a domestic buyer's Priv for the equivalent of $350.

Given the fact that Karalux is based in Vietnam, the offer only applies to local Priv owners or to international clients willing to travel to the country to have their handsets customized. The company will also be selling a brand new 24K gold-plated Priv for a grand total of $1,100.

Karalux has become known worldwide for offering gold-plated models of popular smartphones. Its past BlackBerry endeavors include the Q10 and the Passport (see screenshots here and here). The company has even displayed its portfolio of rose gold and 24K gold-plated iPhone 6 and 6s on its official website back in September.

Karalux stated that iOS fans don't have to wait for the iPhone 6s, which the company said is only rose gold in color. It went on to say that Karalux craftsmen can make any iPhone more elegant with real rose gold layer made from a special gold variant known as "Chocolate Gold."

"The processes and procedures to rose gold-plate iPhone are not different from gold-plating 18K or 24K gold. However, the cost and prices are a bit higher as more expensive raw material," said the company's head engineer Quang Tu.

Gold-plating any handset will take the company's engineers an average of four hours to complete. The procedure consists of adding a "nano" layer over the initial gold layer to further reinforce the build. Karalux claimed that the substance is also used in varnishing Rolls-Royce supercars.

Meanwhile, specs for the Priv include a 5.4-inch AMOLED screen with 1440 x 2560 resolution display, 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal memory expandable up to 200GB via micro-SD slot. Qualcomm's Snapdragon 808 SoC is under the hood carrying a hexa-core CPU and the Adreno 418 GPU. Camera combo is 18 and two megapixels while battery capacity is at 3,410 mAh. Per GSM Arena, Android 5.1.1 Lollipop is pre-installed.
