Leonardo DiCaprio does not participate in a scene where his character is raped by a bear in his new film "The Revenant," according to a Fox spokesperson, despite reports to the contrary on Tuesday.

The 41-year-old actor, who stars in the new adventure drama, plays 19th century frontiersman Hugh Glass, according to People.

The survival drama is based on the true story of Glass, who set out on a 200-mile journey seeking vengeance against those who killed his son and left him for dead after a bear mauling.

"As anyone who has seen the movie can attest, the bear in the film is a female who attacks Hugh Glass because she feels he might be threatening her cubs," the studio spokesperson said in a statement. "There is clearly no rape scene with a bear."

The scene, in which people suspected DiCaprio was being raped by a bear, briefly shows him being fiercely attacked by the beast in the film's trailer.

After considering whether DiCaprio was being raped by a bear in the movie, several people online began wondering, "Has a bear ever raped a human?"

The New Republic even looked at Internet search habits on the subject. It seems as if the 1976 book "Bear" by Canadian writer Marian Engel has begun trending on Twitter. The book is about a lonely archivist who enters into a sexual relationship with a bear.

Oscar-winner Alejandro González Iñárritu directed and co-wrote the film, along with Michael Punke and Mark L. Smith. Domhnall Glesson, Tom Hardy and Will Poulter also appear in the movie.

"The Revenant" will be released to theaters on Christmas Day for a limited release before a debut worldwide on Jan. 8.
