Lady Gaga has been named Billboard's Woman of the Year and is featured on the magazine's latest cover.

The 29-year-old "Born This Way" singer discussed how she almost quit music and how there was a period where she was unable to write songs, according to Billboard.

"People think, 'You can just sit down at a piano whenever you want and write,' but I couldn't write for two f*cking years," Gaga said. "For Artpop, I was doing beats instead. I didn't want to be near that damn [piano]. It was too emotional. I would start to play and sing, and my mind would go, 'You are way too talented for this sh*t. F*ck, your voice sounds good. F*ck, that's a beautiful chord. F*ck, that's an amazing lyric. Why are you letting these people run you into the ground? When did you become the fashionable robot?' Can't being an artist be enough? Is talent ever the thing?"

Even though her 2013 album, "Artpop," debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart, it still failed to sell enough copies. She said the poor sales led her to doubt herself as an artist.

Now, however, Gaga is back on track and recording a new album, which is tentatively title "LG5." Reports indicate that she's been working on the new offering with producer RedOne and Mark Ronson.

Gaga has also been busy starring as The Countess on "American Horror Story: Hotel," created by Ryan Murphy. She told Murphy exactly what she wanted to add to the character.

"I told him I wanted a place to put all of my anguish and rage and that I was excited to play a killer," Gaga said.

"We relate to each other because we're both transformers," Murphy said. "We do something trying to work out shit in our personal life. And then the next year we put on a different costume and we're somebody else."

"American Horror Story: Hotel" airs on FX on Wednesdays at 9 p.m. ET.

Gaga last released an album of jazz standard duets, "Cheek to Cheek," with Tony Bennett in September 2014. The album produced the singles "Anything Goes" and "I Can't Give You Anything but Love."
