The New York Yankees reportedly talked to the Colorado Rockies about the possibility of acquiring veteran shortstop Troy Tulowitzki, who has been mentioned in several MLB trade rumors over the past several weeks.

According to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports, the Yankees "checked in" on Tulowitzki after reports revealed that the trade talks between the Rockies and New York Mets are not progressing at this point.

Sources said that that Tulowitzki is intrigued by the idea of moving to the Yankees this season, citing reports suggesting that the 30-year-old attended a Yankees game last season to watch his idol Derek Jeter, whom he could replace should the Bronx Bombers successfully acquire him in a trade.

However, the Rockies reportedly want a top young pitcher in return from the Yankees. The Yankees could offer Luis Severino, but the Rockies are not high on the 20-year-old pitcher.

Dellin Betances is considered as their best young pitcher, but the Yankees are not expected to part ways with the 26-year-old reliever, who had one save with a 1.40 ERA and 135 strikeouts in 70 games last season.

Andrew Marchand of ESPN New York added that there are no imminent deal between the Yankees and Rockies for Tulowitzki at this point because of several reasons.

The Yankees are not as aggressive as before in looking for a shortstop to take Jeter's place because they are planning to give Didi Gregorious a chance to prove his worth. New York acquired the 24-year-old shortstop from the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Shane Green earlier this month.

Tulowitzki, who has spent the first nine years of his major league career in Colorado, averaged .340 with 21 homeruns and 52 RBIs in 91 games last season.

While his averages look impressive, the Yankees are reportedly concerned about his health. The Santa Clara, California native has averaged just 88 games over the past three seasons due to a bad hip. Tulowitzki will also turn 31 next year, and the Yankees are reportedly looking to get younger next season.

Marchand concluded that a Tulowitzki-to-Yankees trade will not happen anytime soon, unless the Rockies lower their asking price because the Yankees are not willing to give up top players from their farm system.
