Sofia Boutella has been cast in the upcoming "Star Trek 3."

It is unknown what character she will play but it is apparent that Justin Lin and Paramount took notice of her breakout work in "Kingsman: Secret Service" in which she played the role of Gazelle.

Boutella is a French-Algerian dancer and actress who is known for her work in music videos and Nike advertisements and has also done voice work for "Azur & Asmar: The Prince."

Very little is known about the film as it is still in pre-production. The script is currently still being written by Simon Pegg and Doug Jung and as a result there still a possibility more characters will be added.

Lin is taking over directing duties as J.J Abrams was too busy due to work on "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and may be committed to Episode VIII.

The film will directly follow the second installment "Star Trek Into Darkness" and is slated to star Zoe Saldana, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Anton Yelchin, Karl Urban, John Cho and Pegg. Idris Elba is rumored to be the villain in the film but no confirmation has been made.

The Star Trek franchise was rebooted in 2009 with "Star Trek." The film went on to be a critical success and later scored a huge box office. It also won an Academy Award for Best Makeup and scored a number of awards including a Producers Guild of America nomination.

It was later followed by the 2012 film "Into Darkness," which was also a critical hit but could not reach the box office heights of its predecessor. It also received a lot of backlash for its plot. However, it was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Visual effects but lost to "Gravity."

"Star Trek 3" slated to hit theaters on July 8, 2016 with Paramount distributing.
