Microsoft's Xbox Wire announced Friday that Mojang, the company that developed the virtual sandbox game Minecraft, had surpassed the 12-million mark of Minecraft units sold for the Xbox 360.

"Just in case you were one of the six people on the planet who didn't know this already: Mojang's 'Minecraft' is kind of a big deal," Xbox Wire said in a statement. "In fact, the critically acclaimed 'Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition' just crossed the 12 million sold mark -- making it one of the most successful Xbox 360 games ever."

Xbox Wire also assured its Minecraft fans Mojang still has plenty of surprises waiting to be released, including the Candy Texture Pack, which will be released on April 18.

Xbox Wire sat down with Mojang's Daniel Kaplan to talk about the milestone for the company. Kaplan said it was an amazing feeling to surpass the mark recalled the excitement he had when they sold only one million copies.

"That would have put us on par with BF1943 and Castle Crashers, which both are awesome games," Kaplan said, adding, "so that was something to aim for. We never even dreamed of selling 12 million!"

Kaplan said that Mojang is getting ready to develop mashups with other games including a collaboration with Marvel. He also said that Mojang has been trying to create a bigger world for the Xbox360 users but can be difficult because of hard drive space.

"We're pushing the limitations of the 360 in various different ways and we will continue doing that," he said. "However, bigger worlds require the guarantee of a hard drive on each 360; since not all 360s ship with hard drives, that makes things tricky. Luckily, on Xbox One, that's not an issue."

Kaplan added that the Xbox One version of Minecraft is coming soon... "eventually!"

He also expressed gratitude for the millions of fans the game has generated and said he's amazed at all the things he's seen created in the game.

"The continued support and the fact that people are still able to surprise us with innovative creations," has impressed Kaplan the most he said. "Considering you can't 'cheat' by building stuff with external tools, the community have created incredible things."
