Retired NHL player, Wayne Gretzky, also known as the "The Great Gretzky" of hockey, is selling his Westlake Village estate for a lower price.

Gretzky is now offering his California mansion for just below $8.2 million, Los Angeles Times reported. The Times noted that the popular hockey athlete listed the property a year ago for $10.5 million. The 54-year-old sports celebrity may be eager to unload the said estate as he slashed an astounding $2.3 million off its asking price.

However, his current price tag is still about three times the value of what he paid for it 15 years ago, which is just $2.76 million. Thus, Gretzky will be pocketing roughly $5.44 million in profit if he finds a serious buyer soon. The hockey icon commissioned Nicole Van Parys of Engel & Voelkers as his listing agent.

The Westlake Village residence will be an amazing home for its next dwellers. The private and secured 8,711-square-foot residence resting on around an acre of California lot features five bedrooms and six bathrooms.

Other living areas include an exquisite foyer, a formal living room, grand dining room, study room and an updated kitchen equipped with a center island.

Interior details noted on the site and shown on the images include formal-themed accents, large glass panels that create an indoor-outdoor living experience, intricately designed hanging lights, naturally lit rooms, expansive living spaces, recessed lighting, paneled walls, wooden flooring and coffered ceilings that contribute to a more airy ambiance.

Outdoors, the grounds display carefully maintained lawns, clean and pristine-looking hedges, a relaxing fountain and a swimming pool that comes with a raised spa. A nice outdoor party may be arranged as amenities like the dining and barbecue pavilion will surely complement the event. Guests may also enjoy watching some shows on the outdoor flat-screen televisions or just have fun chatting near the fireplace for a comfortable time.

From Hockey to Golf

Gretzky, who played for two decades, lived up to being "The Great Gretzky" in NHL. He was reportedly an 18-time all-star.

ESPN noted that when he retired in 1999, he scored 2,857 points in the NHL. He remains the NHL leader in all-time goals delivered with 894, noted the Los Angeles Times.

Now, he is happy playing golf as he also sees it as a venue for having some time with his friends.

"I enjoyed the game from the beginning, despite the difficulties I had with it. We were blessed with a great golf course in Brantford, the Brantford Golf & Country Club. It was always fun to go out with friends; it was a way to hang out with my buddies," Gretzky told Golf Digest in 2009.
