Psyonix has been very open about the development of "Rocket League." This time, the company revealed the real score on their revenue since July.

According to the Wall Street Journal, "Rocket League" really hit it big when it included DeLorean from "Back to the Future" movie. Currently, the "Rocket League" video game has already brought in $50 million of revenue to its developer and eight million registered users online. For such a low-budget video game, the immense amount of revenue and support have been very surprising.

Eric Handler of MKM Partners said in a statement, "That's like a low-budget film that far exceeds expectations. It's tough to get through the clutter."

"Rocket League" is a combination of car racing game and soccer, which appealed to many players, as what the revenue and registered user statistics showed. In fact, during the Game Awards, "Rocket League" was able to beat several big-budget games such as "FIFA 16" from Electronics Arts and bagged the award for the best sports/racing title.

"Rocket League" is about racing cars, battling to chase a soccer ball and get it to the other team's goal. The game is basically easy to learn, but has challenged hardcore gamers into mastering the gameplay.

When Psyonix failed to impress gamers with "Supersonic Acrobatic Rocket-Powered Battle-Cars," they worked on "Rocket League" for two years. Despite its bleak future, the company continued and even worked for big developers just to fund the development of "Rocket League."

According to Dave Hagewood, founder of the studio, they worked for EA's "Mass Effect 3" and Microsoft's "Gears of War" in order to gain monetary support. "Rocket League" has a $2 million budget when it started and has now greatly multiplied that amount in just a few months. With limited funds to even afford advertisement, they made "Rocket League" downloadable on PlayStation Plus for a month and a fee of $20 for those who aren't PlayStation Plus subscribers. The technique was successful, delivering the game to as many players as possible.

According to Attack of the Fan Boy, "Rocket League" is currently downloadable for PlayStation 4 and PC for only $19.99. Xbox One players will have to wait until February to acquire the game on their consoles.

Have you played "Rocket League" recently? What do you think of the massive success that it's currently enjoying?
