Kurt Russell recently spoke about rumors linking him with the upcoming "Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2."

It is not often that a high profile actor addresses a major rumor about appearing in a massive franchise, but Russell's response was refreshingly candid.

The veteran actor has been rumored to be in line to play the role of protagonist Peter Quill's (Chris Pratt) father.

According to Cinema Blend, the actor noted that the entire experience for him has been rather "weird." That said, he opened up about everything he had done so far regarding the role.

"I literally got a phone call two days ago about this, I've never seen 'Guardians of the Galaxy' so I don't know anything about it," he said. "Many times I've heard, 'That's a really fun movie, a really good movie [with] great characters.'"

He noted that he was forward with director James Gunn when the two spoke on the phone regarding the possibility of his taking on the role.

"I just had to be honest and say, 'Thank you for considering me, I have to read [the script], and I have to watch the [first] movie because I can't bring anything for you [right now],'" he added. "I've got nothing to offer here. So, I'm amazed to get asked about this because everybody knows more about it than I do."

It is a rather interesting scenario, as it confirms that the actor is in fact linked with the film. That said, his honest response about his knowledge of the film could work against him or in his favor.

Gunn might feel uncomfortable vetting someone who seems to have minimal interest in his films. By the same token, he might push harder to get Russell, who would come into the franchise without much baggage or opinions about the direction it should go.

The identity of Quill's father was one of the great unanswered questions of "Guardians of the Galaxy," making it one of the more interesting plot points to explore in the forthcoming installment.

Russell has had a big year in 2015. He was one of the major stars of Quentin Tarantino's "The Hateful Eight" and also appeared in "Furious 7."

The new "Guardians" movie is set to hit theaters on May 5, 2017.
