Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn has recently confirmed that the highly anticipated upcoming film will directly link to Avengers 3.

Thanos, who previously appeared in a post-credits scene in The Avengers, will certainly plot his next villainous moves in the new Marvel movie because of the historical ties between his daughter Nebula, played by Karen Gillan, and Zoe Saldana's role, Gamora.

Gunn also discussed Chris Pratt's character Star-Lord's history and his connection with Thanos in the superhero film. "[Star Lord] was abducted from Earth (Missouri) at age 8 and raised in a group of thieves and smuggles called the Ravagers. He's good with the ladies and a little bit of a dick and very lucky," he said. "Thanos slaughtered [Gamora's] family and Nebula's, then raised them together as siblings. They were bio engineered to become living weapons, so he's really good at killing people."

In addition, Thanos' appearance indicates that there will be several other Marvel character movies in the future, including The Avengers 3. The Infinity Gauntlet, Marvel's limited six-issue comic book, chronicles Thanos' quest to collect all Infinity Gems to be the most powerful being in the universe, and lists superhero characters that are trying to stop him.

Two of the Infinity stones have been introduced -- Tesseract, a glowing blue cube from Captain America and The Avengers, and Aether, a red particle cloud in Thor: The Dark World. Aether was given to The Collector, played by Benico del Toro, seen in the end credits of Thor 2.
