Smartphones will continue to get better as time goes on, and there are definitely have several requests for features to improve this year.

Battery Life

A big problem for smartphones has been batteries that die quickly, USAToday reports. It is the most important feature that consumers want improved on future smartphones. Apple has been trying to keep their iPhones as thin as possible and putting in a bigger battery would not work for the company. In fact, the iPhone 6s's battery is actually smaller than the iPhone 6's battery.

Samsung and other Android smartphone makers have been able to include bigger batteries thanks to producing bigger phones, but battery life can still improve on these devices as well.

Fast, Wireless Charging iPhones

Apple has refused to embrace wireless or fast-charging technologies. This is a way for smartphone owners to charge their phones while they are on the go and when they have little time to wait. The iPhone 7 needs to find a way to allow wireless charging or fast charging. With wireless charging, customers can simply put their phone on top of circular charging pads at places like coffee shops.

Unbreakable Screens

Screens need to get stronger and crack resistant. With such expensive devices, a cracked screen can really ruin a device and cause a huge unwanted expense for consumers. Motorola created the Droid Turbo 2, which the company says is "shatter" resistant. Hopefully, other smartphone makers follow with their own shatter-proof screens in 2016.

More Storage

Internal storage space needs to increase in all smartphones. The entry-level phones need to start with at least 32 GB of space, not 16 GB. Smartphone users are downloading more apps, taking thousands of pictures and storing massive amounts of data on their phones and 16 GB is no longer acceptable. Phones with microSD slots have offered a way to expand internal data, but iPhones have never had this feature and other companies are getting rid of microSD slots. More default storage is the better solution.

What Else?

Smartphones in 2016 that include or improve on those four fundamental aspects will definitely make the new year in tech more satisfying for consumers. But everyone that owns a smartphone has their own unique pet peeves. Have we forgotten anything?
