Oh no! "Rizzoli & Isles" is officially signing off after the series' upcoming Season 7. The sad news was announced by TNT during the Television Critics Association winter press tour in Pasadena on Thursday, Jan. 7. The show, which starred by Sasha Alexander and Angie Harmon, depicted the lives of Medical Examiner Maura Isles and Detective Jane Rizzoli, whose friendship and expertise solved Boston's most complex cases.

Following the series' renewal in August 2015, "Rizzoli & Isles" Season 7 will only comprise 13 episodes, which is the second shortest episode ordered by the network after its 10-episode first season. According to Design & Trend, TNT and TBS President Kevin Reilly announced the end of the series, saying "that's just the way it went down."

"This is the last year for 'Rizzoli & Isles,'" Reilly said, as per TVLine. "That's just the way it went down. [Harmon and Alexander] have had a really satisfying experience. I don't know that they wouldn't do anymore. But they felt very comfortable that it's had a good run. Everyone said, 'Let's go out and finish 13 great ones and call it a day.'"

Reilly also added that the producers have agreed that the series had run its course, saying they "felt like it was time" and the series had "a good run." Meanwhile, the news about the final season of the series came after the supporting cast was expected to renegotiate their contracts for Season 7 and after Harmon and Alexander renegotiated their deals together last season, The Hollywood Reporter revealed.

The series is currently on hiatus following the jaw-dropping midseason finale where Maura Isles was kidnapped. While other shows are axed because of poor ratings, the TNT series is a consistent performer on the network, Cinema Blend noted. As a matter of fact, each episode of the crime show's Season 6 lured about 11 million viewers in all viewing platforms.

In other news, 42-year-old Sasha Alexander has recently nabbed a People's Choice Award for Favorite Cable TV Actress, the same prize that 43-year-old Harmon won last year, Us Weekly reported.

Meanwhile, for the upcoming "Rizzoli & Isles" Season 6 midseason premiere next month, CarterMatt hinted that Alexander's character will surpass the kidnapping alive. However, executive producer Jan Nash warned in an interview that Jane Rizzoli will not be able to solve the mystery in a short period of time.

"There's a mysterious element to it," Nash told TV Guide. "It takes a while to figure out what's going on. When they do figure out what's going on, it'll take a while to catch the perpetrator... We want to give her a meaningful nemesis in addition to these [standalone episodes]."

"Rizzoli & Isles" Season 6B returns on Tuesday, Feb. 16 at 9 p.m. on TNT. While Season 7 is expected to premiere this summer, E! Online has learned. For free online stream link, click here
