The next LG flagship smartphone is coming soon, and rumors are already indicating several changes to the line. The update to the LG G4 is expected to be announced at a special press conference at the Mobile World Congress on Feb. 21.

LG is definitely making some kind of announcement on Feb. 21 because the company has already sent out "Save the Date" invites to members of the press, Tech Radar reports.

Since the Mobile World Congress event in Barcelona is focused on smartphones, it makes sense that the manufacturer would use the event to announce their new phone. The next LG flagship phone will likely be called the LG G5.

At last year's Mobile World Congress, Samsung announced the Samsung Galaxy S6 and HTC announced the HTC One M9 smartphone. LG had to play catch up for their LG G4 when they announced it after the event. The company likely won't make the same mistake again this year.

The LG G4's distinct features were its leather back and plastic body. This year, LG could finally catch up to Apple, Samsung, HTC and Sony with an all-metal body. This would also mean it would ditch the leather back, a feature that not everyone was too happy with.

According to recent rumors, LG has been working on new curved screens that would drop over the top and the bottom of the phone. The curved screen idea was first used by Samsung on the Galaxy S6 Edge. The Edge has curved edges on the sides of the phone, but LG would curve the edges on the top and bottom of the phone instead.

LG is expected to use the new Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor for the LG G5. This chip is expected to be used in most flagship phones to be released in 2016, and it is a nice step up from the Snapdragon 808 chip used in the LG G4.

The most exciting rumor about the LG G5 is the possibility of an iris scanner. Iris scanners are possibly the future of smartphones, allowing users to unlock their phones with their eyes.
