This weekend will have a number of films that audiences can choose from. Among them are new releases and a plethora of Oscar nominees. So what should audiences watch this weekend?

What to Watch

Oscar nominees-This week the Oscar nominees were finally announced and with them there were multiple surprises. For audiences who want to catch up with the latest line up of films that have scored nominations for this year's top prizes, there will be multiple choices. "The Revenant" will expand and bring its theater count to 3,559. The film is nominated for 12 Oscars and after last weekend's breakout box office, this film should continue to obtain momentum.

Oscar front-runner "Spotlight" is once again going wide after doing well in the fall. The film will be brought to 985 theaters and hopes it will appeal to audiences who have not seen it yet.

"Carol" may have been snubbed for Best Picture but the Weinstein Company will finally push it into wide release. The film will be seen in 790 theaters with hopes of continuing to generate solid box office. The film has already brought in $7.5 million.

Also expanding are "Brooklyn," "The Danish Girl" and "The Martian" even though it is already on DVD and on demand.

Two films that are taking their time to build audiences are "45 Years" and "Son of Saul," which will continue to play in limited release and try to generate buzz with their Oscar nominations.

"13 Hours: The Secret: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi"-Michael Bay's latest will definitely stir some conversation especially with the upcoming elections. The film is one of Bay's passion projects and it takes him away from the bloated blockbusters he has been known for. The film has gotten decent reviews and is likely to attract older audiences as well as those who followed the Hillary Clinton email scandal.

"A Perfect Day:" Benicio del Toro continues his remarkable resurgence with this drama that tells the story of a group of aid workers who are trying to resolve a conflict in an armed zone. The film premiered at the Cannes Film festival where it scored positive reviews and was later picked up by Sundance Selects. It will open in two theaters but will also be available on demand.

For those not interested in these films, "The Treasure," "The Lady in the Van," "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" and "Sisters" will still be in theaters.

Stay Away

"Norm of the North"-The first animated film of the year has received some of the worst reviews for an animated film. Currently standing at four percent on Rotten Tomatoes, the movie is tracking to make $10 million according to boxoffice.com. For those seeking a good family film, "The Good Dinosaur" may provide a better option.
