With the Academy Award nominees having been announced most of the films will now be on the radar of moviegoers around the world. Many of the films will also get boosts at the box office due to expansions from their distributors and some of them even become box office hits. So how did the films fare after the nominations?

"The Big Short"- Having opened in December in limited release, the film went wide on Christmas and then slowly expanded. "The Big Short has already made $51 million and it was the only Best Picture nominee not to get a boost at the box office this weekend The film actually was taken out of 764 theaters and made $5.2 million dropping 15.2 percent. The drama is nominated for five Oscars and is likely to continue solid business regardless of its drop.

"Bridge of Spies"- Nominated for six Oscars the Steven Spielberg drama finished its domestic run back in December after having grossed $70 million. The film still remains in 95 theaters but Disney is not relaunching it as it will be on DVD soon.

"Brooklyn"- Fox Searchlight has slowly pushed the Indie drama and even though it went wide in November the movie has had legs due to word of mouth. After getting nominated for three Oscars, the film was brought back into 687 theaters and had a 57 percent boost making $1.6 million. To date the immigrant drama has already made $24 million and could become Fox Searchlight's best grossing film of 2015 if word of mouth continues strong.

"Mad Max: Fury Road"- Warner Bros. Oscar nominee is up for 10 awards but is already out of theaters. The film opened in May and has been on DVD for months. Unless the film wins the Best Picture of the year, it is unlikely that Warner Bros. will bring the film back to theaters.

"The Martian"- Regardless of the fact that Fox recently released Ridley Scott's film on DVD, the film, which is nominated for seven Oscars, was expanded into five more theaters bringings it theater count to 275. The science fiction film is the highest-grossing Best Picture nominee as it has made $227 million. With a boost of 10 percent at the box office this past weekend, "The Martian" may still have legs at the box office and could end its run with $230 million.

"The Revenant"- Leonardo DiCaprio's drama is in its second weekend in wide release and is likely to be the second-highest grossing Best Picture of the year nominee. In its second week the film only had a 25 percent drop and made $29 million. To date it has made $93 million and with 12 nominations, this film will likely have a solid box office by Oscar night.

"Room"- Lenny Abrahamson's drama has been in theaters for 14 weeks and A24 has not opened the movie nationwide. As a matter of fact the movie went widest this past weekend opening in 293 theaters and had its highest gross with $700,000. A24 has slowly been building buzz and with Brie Larson likely to win the only Oscar of the four it's nominated for, the distributor will likely continue its slow build.

"Spotlight"- The drama is widely touted as the front-runner to win the Oscar and has made $30 million since opening in November. Open Road expanded the film this past weekend and made another $1.5 million. If it continues to obtain strong word of mouth, "Spotlight" could still bring its total to $40 million. Nominated for six Oscars, expect the film to continue solid business especially if it wins the SAG awards and Producers Guild.
