Kennesaw State, which is known as the third largest university in Georgia, is on lockdown, according to officials.

The website says "there is a possible armed man on the campus green," an area that is the center of the north Cobb County campus, notes the Atlanta-Journal Constitution.

Students and staff have been advised to stay indoors and to lock doors, according to the university paper's Twitter account.

The school is located about 30 miles northwest of Atlanta, and there are more than 21,000 students at the public university.

Many have taken to social media to share what they see. Most of the pictures include barricades and police officers. Mostly, there is confusion and hopes that nothing dire will happen.

One user says, "Kennesaw State is now describing it as a possible 'weapon' not necessarily a gun. Basically, we have no idea... #KSU #StaySafe"

Another said, "Just watched live on 11Alive chopper video armed officers place a cuffed individual into a police car. #KennesawState"

Other sources have also reported that a person of interest has been detained.

Some wondered if there was actually a shooting, which doesn't seem to be what's been reported.

And there are a few Twitter users who are just thankful for the police.

One said, "On lockdown at Kennesaw State they are doing an excellent job handling the situation.Cobb pd are everywhere.Keeping us safe! #KennesawState"

Kennesaw State University was founded on Oct. 9, 1963. The school is located on 240 acres adjacent to I-75. The campus can be seen from the highway. Fall 2012 saw its largest enrollment number when 24,600 students enrolled. About 75 percent of students come from Cobb, Cherokee or Fulton counties. However, nine percent of the population is from other countries.
