Actress Ximena Duque is about to make her American television debut doing what she does best: acting in a soap opera. Duque has been announced as the newest addition to the cast of "Days of Our Lives."

According to Variety Latino, the Colombian telenovela actress will be playing the role of Blanca on several episodes beginning in May, and she will become involved with the Hernandez family.

Duque shared the news on her Instagram account. She also later expressed her gratitude and encouraged fans to follow their dreams.

"Dream big because dreams do come true, you set the limits...#crossover #dreamscometrue thank you for joining me on this special day," the actress captioned a post.

Duque spoke to People en Español about the casting and revealed a few more details about the role. She said she auditioned just for fun and was surprised to learn she got the part last November.

"It is such a fun role. She is young, very fresh. She came looking for work," Duque said about Blanca. "She tries to look for work with a veterinarian because she likes that. She is trying to settle in the United States and create a life over here. She comes to start a journey."

Like her character, the star also came to the U.S. with her family to chase dreams. Since landing her first recurring role in 2005, Duque has remained a constant presence on Latin television.

The 30-year-old is known for her roles in various telenovelas and Spanish-language shows like "Corazón valiente," "Santa Diabla," "Villa paraíso" and "Dueños del paraíso," which she starred in alongside Kate del Castillo.

The actress has been nominated for several Premios Tu Mundo awards and won the Best Female Villain award in 2014 for her role in "Santa Diabla."

Duque explained that she is still processing what this opportunity means for career and is letting the excitement settle in.

"It is like an academy for Americans, great actors have passed through here," she said about the soap opera. "I still won't believe it until I see myself on screen."
