Serena Williams will look to make history again, while Angelique Kerber will aim for her first Grand Slam when they collide in the 2016 Australian Open women's final on Saturday at Rod Laver Arena in Melbourne, Australia.

Road to 2016 Australian Open Final

Williams, who was tagged as heavy favorite before the tournament started, is coming off an impressive 6-0, 6-4 win against fourth seed Agnieszka Radwanska in the semifinals, which came after eliminating fifth seed Maria Sharapova in the quarterfinals. The top seed, who is looking to tie Steffi Graf's record of 22 Grand Slams, defeated Camila Giorgi, Su-Wei Hsieh, Darya Kasatkina and Margarita Gasparyan in the first four rounds of the tournament, respectively.

Kerber, the seventh seed in this year's tournament, booked a date with Williams via a straight-set win against Johanna Kanta in the semifinals. The 28-year-old German also dispatched 14th seed Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinals after winning against Misaki Doi, Alexandra Dulgheru, Madison Brengle and Annika Beck.

Head-to-Head Matchup

Williams and Kerber will collide just for the seventh time in their respective careers, Match Stat indicated. As expected, Williams has dominated their head-to-head matchup, winning in five of their first six meetings, including their latest encounter in the 2014 Stanford final, but Kerber thinks their previous matches will not be a factor on Saturday.

"I think every match starts from zero," Kerber said in a news conference. "It's a new match. It's a new challenge. I mean, the courts, the balls, everything is the same. It's the final of a major, of course. At the end you must play a normal match like always."

Williams, who is one win away from getting her seventh Australian Open title, also said that she has to be at her best against Kerber, pointing out that her final opponent performed well against Azarenka in the quarterfinals.

"You can't underestimate Kerber," Williams told reporters. "She's beaten me before, too, and pretty good. I know that she brings a lot, you know, to the game. Her being lefty definitely helps out as well. I haven't played any lefties yet. But we'll see."
