At the end of "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," the fates of many characters were left hanging in the balance. One of the characters that was most shockingly omitted from the conclusion was Captain Phasma.

Widely seen as a disappointment, the character that had a tremendous amount of marketing buzz was ultimately a minor character with no major differentiator outside of the costume. Some even thought that given the character's minimal role and easy disposal (pun intended), that the end had come rather quickly for Gwendoline Christie's character.

But that does not seem to be the case as the actress has confirmed that she will be back for the next installment in the franchise.

Empire reported that the actress had confirmed her involvement in "Episode VIII" of the galactic franchise.

"I will be in the next Star Wars movie. I think that's an exclusive, actually," she told the publication.
This is good news, especially considering how much of a short end the character got in the previous film. Where her character goes is rather interesting, especially considering the number of villains currently in the franchise.

One can assume that Kylo Ren and Rey will grow as adversaries throughout the film with Snoke somehowbeing linked with Luke Skywalker in some capacity. General Hux will likely have his continued faceoff with the Resistance while Captain Phasma could look to get revenge on Finn for his betrayal and eventual treatment of her. That might set up an interesting dynamic for the remainder of the franchise. In fact, who knows if Finn's duel with a Stormtrooper in "The Force Awakens" was but a taste of a bigger face-off with Phasma at the climax of the series.

"Episode VIII" recently underwent some delays due to the need for script changes. One wonders if the need to expand Phasma's role was among the changes that were taken up. There has been a lot of debate about whether Poe Dameron was the main reason behind the delay as the character was originally set to die in "Episode VII: The Force Awakens," but wound up surviving the film.
