On Wednesday Feb. 3, the nominees for the 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards were announced, and to no surprise, Latin male artists lead with the most nominations.

According to Billboard, leading the pack is bachata singer Romeo Santos who is nominated for 12 awards in 11 different categories, including Song of the Year, Tropical Song of the Year, Artist of the Year, Songwriter of the Year and Social Artist of the Year, to name a few.

Santos was one of the biggest winners at the 2015 award ceremony, taking home 10 awards.

Following with 11 nominations are Puerto Rican artist Nicky Jam and Enrique Iglesias, whose nominations are due to the success of their international hit "El Perdón."

They are both up for Artist of the Year, Hot Latin Song of the Year, Air Play Song of the Year and Latin Rhythm Song of The Year.

J Balvin scored eight nominations, including Hot Latin Song of the Year, Artist of the Year and Airplay Song of the Year.

Rock band Maná is up for seven with Pop Song of the Year, Latin Pop Album of the Year and Top Latin Album of the Year. Ariel Camacho y Los Plebes Del Rancho were the other group to score seven nominations despite tragically losing Camacho in 2015.

Scoring five or more nominations each were Ricky Martin, Juan Gabriel, Julion Alvarez y su Norteño Banda, Marc Anthony and Calibre 50.

Despite men leading with numerous nominations there were a few female star names in the mix.

Shakira is nominated for her duet with Maná. Chiquis Rivera is up for awards like Regional Mexican Album of the Year and Female Artist of the Year.

Pop singer Natalia Jimenez and music veteran Ana Gabriel are both up for Top Latin Album and Female Artist of the Year, while Jennifer Lopez scored a nomination for her song "El mismo sol," her duet with Alvaro Soler.

Perhaps one of the biggest surprises came when the name of the late Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla appeared on the list of nominees for Top Latin Album and Female Artist of the Year.

The singer's album of hits, "Lo Mejor de...Selena" was released on March 2015 and climbed to number two on the Billboard charts.

Other nominees include Daddy Yankee, Gente de Zona, Gerardo Ortiz, Yandel, Farruko, Juanes, Maluma, Jesse y Joy, Joan Sebastian, Plan B and Prince Royce.

The 2016 Billboard Latin Music Awards are set to air live on Telemundo on April 28 and will be hosted by Gaby Espino and Pedro Fernández.
