Baking soda is a kitchen ingredient that is commonly used for cakes and pastries. It doubles as a household cleaning product for washing the dishes, removing the odor from the microwave or turning kitchen counters sparking white.

However, there is a third way you can make use baking soda for numerous health problems. Below are a few suggestions:

1) For heartburn, ulcer and indigestion relief.

Drinking half a teaspoon of baking soda with half a glass of water can alleviate and counterbalance the production of stomach acid that is common among those who suffer from heartburn, ulcer and indigestion.

2) For skincare.

Make a baking soda mask as an alternative to expensive skincare products to treat acne and blackheads, slough off dead skin and soothe inflammation and rashes.

Use two tablespoons and mix this with warm water. The consistency should not be too thin or thick. Then, apply this on your face and let it stay for 15 to 30 minutes before rinsing with water. Do this routine three times a week.

3) For smelly armpits.

Store-bought deodorants contain harmful ingredients like phthalates, aluminum salts or parabens, which has links to breast cancer. Homemade deodorant using baking powder does away with all the chemical risks, yet ensures that your underarm is odor free.

Mix baking soda with a small amount of water to make paste and rub this under your armpits. Let it dry before putting on clothes.

4) For sunburn relief.

Baking soda acts as a cooling agent for treating sunburn. Dissolve about half a cup of this in the bathtub and then wash and soak yourself using the treated water. Do not dry off with a towel as air drying is better, so that your skin retains the baking soda.

5) For dry feet.

Use baking soda to exfoliate your feet when having foot scrubs, in place drugstore or beauty store products that can lead to skin dryness. You can also mix vinegar in the solution if you have feet fungus infection. Repeat the process until the fungus disappears.

6) For whiter teeth.

Toothpastes do contain baking soda in its ingredients as it is a mild abrasive that works to remove surface stains. However, do not use baking soda if you are wearing braces or retainers, as this may weaken the orthodontic glue.

7) For baby's diaper rash.

Put two tablespoons of baking soda in a basin filled with warm water and then use this to give the baby a bath. Let the baby soak for 10 minutes and repeat the process at least three times a day.
