UFC featherweight champion Conor McGregor is set to face Nate Diaz in a welterweight bout at UFC 196's main event. The fight is still a couple of days away, but "Notorious" is already sighting his next opponent.

In an interview with BT Sport, McGregor revealed that he is open to fighting Floyd "Money" Mayweather Jr. in a boxing match if fans wanted it. The Irishman added that this is because he loves a good fight and a huge payday.

"I'm open to discussions, come at me. But I hold the key and it's me who holds the key to the fight game," McGregor said. "I am open minded, I am open to discussion, I love competition, I love fighting. It would be nice to make that fight if the fans were interested and wanted to see it."

How Conor McGregor vs Floyd Mayweather Started

The 27-year-old MMA fighter became irritated with Mayweather when the boxing legend mentioned his name in an interview with Fight Hype last December 2015.

"I don't really know the McGregor guy; never seen him fight," Mayweather said. "They say he talk a lot of trash and people praise him for it, but when I did it, they say I'm cocky and arrogant."

The 39-year-old boxer also said that he's not racist but believes that racism still exists.

"Notorious" responded to the retired undefeated boxer's comments on his Facebook page. "Floyd Mayweather, don't ever bring race into my success again. I am an Irishman. My people have been oppressed our entire existence," McGregor wrote.

McGregor added that he understood the feeling of prejudice due to his family's long history of warfare. He also warned Mayweather not to bring up the topic again and hinted the possibility of fighting him. The brash Dublin-native then proceeded to mock the boxer's final fight, saying that it "bombed at every area of revenue."

Welterweight Champion

It's crazy to think that a McGregor vs. Mayweather fight will ever happen. In the meantime, "Notorious" will have to focus as he jumps up to two weight classes to make his debut at 170 lbs. He will be facing Nate Diaz this coming Sunday, March 5.

UFC President Dana White hinted on McGregor's next fight during the UFC 196 pre-fight press conference. White said that the featherweight champion could face Robbie Lawler if he wins against Diaz.

A McGregor vs. Lawler bout for the UFC welterweight title will likely happen at UFC 200.
