Shakira is teaming up with Fisher-Price to create an app, called "Grow," that will help young parents with the tricky endeavors of parenthood.

"I wanted it to be something that wasn't overwhelming, but that was really thorough and offered a rich variety of content," Shakira said. "With this app, you can simply use the daily age-appropriate tip or activity sent to you, or you can access the entire library of tips at any time if you're looking for something different or want to focus on a specific developmental category that day."

So what exactly does the app offer new parents?

Daily Tips

Parenting can be an overwhelming experience, especially in the early days when young parents have no knowledge about what to do when a problem occurs. Often they will have their own parents there to help, but there can be situations in which they have no one to turn to. Grow provides over 2,000 tips on a daily basis to help out parents. Users can keep track of their favorite tips using the Favorites option.

Milestones

Shakira noted that she is a "serial documenter" when it comes to her own children, recording every major event. As time passes, parents could easily forget when their kids spoke their first words or took their first steps. With the Milestones feature, they have an easily accessible place to record that very information so they can carry memories with them forever. Parents can track milestones through the age of five.

Capturing Moments

The app not only allows parents to record major moments, but also take pictures, record videos and even write stories about a moment that they want stored forever in a personalized journal for each child. The app even has a built-in feature for sharing said moments on a number of social media platforms, including Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google+ and others. Shakira herself is fond of using Instagram to showcase major moments with her two children.

App Offered in Spanish

The app is also available in Spanish. Shakira noted that she felt it was important to expand the app's reach to people that speak her native tongue.

"There are many mothers in Latin American countries that have less support than others that I want to help, even a small contribution," Shakira added.
