Unlike most women, who could care less about their beauty routine when they are about to give birth, Alaha Majid made looking good a priority. The New York-based makeup artist made sure to pack her makeup in her hospital bag so that when she was suffering from contractions, she could do her makeup.

Majid's shocking story went viral when she posted photos to Instagram documenting the day her daughter was born. The photos show Majid laying in a hospital bed with a variety of makeup tools and kits in front of her. She is seen applying eyeshadow while suffering labor pains.

“Yes, I was doing my makeup while I was in labor!” Majid captioned the photos. “I was pausing during contractions and picking up where I left off once the contractions passed.”

Even more shocking was the fact that Majid had a drug-free birth. While she glammed up her contractions were coming full force. When the contractions were too strong, her husband stepped in to give her a helping hand.

While Majid's love for makeup is understandable, many were left puzzled by how putting on makeup could possibly help with labor contractions. Majid had an answer for that.

“After being in labor for over ten hours, the only thing to help keep my mind off of the pain was to do something that I love to do,” Majid told Us Weekly. “I also love to read and during the first few hours that is exactly what I did, however reading started to give me a headache, so I figured I’d pull out my makeup bag."

While Majid did eventually share a post announcing the birth of her daughter, who she named Sofia Alaya Karimi, she and her husband decided to keep the infant out of the spotlight.
