A video, which was shared on social media on April 9, has caught the attention of authorities in Mexico because it reveals how a group of men set a dog on fire with fireworks.

In the disturbing video, the defenseless animal is seen running around frantically after being set on fire while the young men watch and laugh as the canine dies.

The horrific incident occurred in the town of Santa Matilde, located in the state of San Luis Potosi, and is believed to have reportedly included over 15 men.

In San Luis Potosi, Animal abuse is punishable by law and the video has many calling for a full investigation and prosecution of those involved in the incident.

The video caught the attention of actor Eugenio Derbez who slammed the brutal act and called for justice and protection of animals on his Twitter account. Derbez also called for action from Governor Juan Manuel Carreras.

"Mister Governor we want justice! May we enforce the law," he tweeted along with a link to the video.

"In San Luis Potosi, we are working to eradicate all expressions of violence. We will continue fighting crime in all its forms," Carreras said on Twitter, who assured Derbez that the act of animal cruelty was being investigated.
