Michael Fassbender will be in "Prometheus 2." Yes Alien franchise fans, this is fantastic science-fiction news.

The Oscar-nominated actor Fassbender let it slip during a press interview this week for "X-Men: Days of Future Past." Some people are thrilled about the "Prometheus 2" project, and its timing, while some are not. Fassbender's confirmation adds new information about the "alien-y" sequel.

During the new "X-Men" film interview, Fassbender, 37, along with his co-star James McAvoy, 35, confirmed to both McAvoy and the interviewer from Collider that he will be working with the "Alien" director Ridley Scott. Fassbender replied to Collider's question about Scott, stating that he loves working with Scott, and that "he's a master filmmaker," MoviePilot reported. This lead to McAvoy's curiosity by asking Fassbender, "Are you doing a sequel?"

Fassbender responded by stating yes, but he did not know when.

The rumors, denials, and confirmations of Fassbender's involvement with "Prometheus 2" started since 2012, and straight up until now. By Fassbender not knowing when filming would begin, it is likely to assume that it will start in the fall. The filming would be after Scott delivers his Moses drama "Exodus: Gods and Kings," and then the "Blade Runner" sequel will follow; this could put "Prometheus 2" to come out as early as March 2016, MoviePilot reported.

So what do we know so far since Fassbender's confirmation? Besides Fassbender and Scott's involvement in the project, Noomi Rapace is expected to return in the tentatively titled "Prometheus 2," joined by Sigourney Weaver. And, some actors from the previous "Alien" films are also expected to return.

Scott, along with Michael Green, will be penning the script. And, Scott and Green will also be working on and writing the new "Blade Runner" film. Green has experience in creating the short-lived TV series "Kings," and he has worked on "Smallville," and "Heroes;" and, he has been hired to write the new "The Flash" TV series, Entertainment Weekly and The Wrap.

The new "Prometheus 2" is rumored to feature multiple Fassbender robots, a time-travel element, and that Weaver is expected to reprise her role as Lieutenant Ellen Ripley, but as a clone. Fassbender will reprise his role as David the android.

Besides the fans that will need convincing, a previous "Alien" director was not thrilled by the "Prometheus" film. James Cameron, "Aliens" director, stated that "Prometheus" was an "interesting film;" "I thought it was thought-provoking and beautifully, visually mounted, but at the end of the day it didn't add up logically," The Independent reported.

Nevertheless, Fassbender for "Prometheus" is a go.
