Former President Bill Clinton dismissed comments that his wife Hillary Clinton is suffering from brain damage, saying that he was "dumbfounded" that Karl Rove questioned if her health was good enough to run for president again in 2016.

The former president was asked about Hillary Clinton's health at the 2014 Fiscal Summit sponsored by the Peter G. Peterson Foundation in Washington, D.C. on Wednesday.

"First they say she was faking her concussion, now they say she's auditioning for a part on The Walking Dead," Clinton said Wednesday, according to Fox News. "She is strong, she is doing great. As far as I can tell, she's in better shape than I am."

The beloved Democratic leader went on to say he was "dumbfounded" by the matter, pointing out that "there's nothing to it" and his wife is probably in "better shape" than he is in, himself.

"Now they say she's really got brain damage," he said. "Well, if she does then I must be in really tough shape, because she's still quicker than I am."

He also joked that "Consistency is the hobgoblin of little minds."

According to USA Today Politics, Rove said the former secretary of State had a "serious health episode" and has "hidden" information about her health.

In response, Clinton said comments like that are "just the beginning" for his wife, who will decide sometime later this year whether to run for the White House in 2016. "You can't be too upset about it," he said. "They'll just get better and better."

He also quibbed the Republican line about the Clintons hasn't come around on a particular issue that dogged them while he was in office back in the 1990'. "I'm still waiting for them to admit there's nothing to Whitewater," Clinton said.
