Samsung Galaxy Note 7 in the US may find their phones useless by next week. A US Cellular message alert was sent to a Galaxy Note 7 user this week saying that as of December 15, Samsung will be releasing an update that will stop the Note 7 from charging. Preventing the phone from charging will render the phone useless. Samsung has not made any official announcements yet if they would completely disable the Note 7 next week.

The Verge mentioned that it was not clear if all Galaxy Note 7 phones from across cellular carriers will be a part of this update. It was clear that this is Samsung's crucial attempt to recover all Galaxy Note 7 phones. It is still offering a recall of all Note 7 units; customers can fully return their phones or exchange for another Samsung phone or device.

After the recall of the Galaxy Note 7 was announced, there were major updates that have been released to disable the controversial phone's features across AT&T and Verizon. Last month, Samsung sent out restrictions from charging the phone past 60%. Another update also appeared on the screen every time the Note 7 was powered on. A message would appear telling the user to take the phone back for a recall.

Canadian Galaxy Note 7 owners also had their share of disabling updates. Samsung sent out an update that disabled Wi-Fi and Bluetooth features of the phone as well as cellular and data service. In short, customers had to return their Note 7 devices since they can't use it for calling or messaging.

Android Central recalled that the Galaxy Note 7 was recalled in September 2016 because its batteries caught fire and exploded. Replacements were sent out but did the same thing. It was finally in October that Samsung had to use tough measures to recall all Galaxy Note 7 units.

Samsung has recalled about 85 percent of all Galaxy Note 7 phones in the US as of November 4. There are still more or less 250,000 phones that are still unrecovered. Completely disabling these unreturned units may be the final and the safest way to ensure that these phones won't cause users any more harm.
