Google’s Android and Apple’s iOS are currently the leading operating systems for mobile phones. They have their own advantages, as for Android, its biggest advantage is its customizability, while Apple’s iOS is twice as memory efficient as Android, therefore, better when it comes to speed and performance.

As the battle for dominance continues, let’s see the highlights of the biggest updates for both the Android and iOS.

Android Nougat 7.1.1

Succeeding the Android Marshmallow, Android Nougat has improvements on stability and performance. There are also new emojis and new features done in this update. The improvements focus on “communication”.

The scrapped from the beta feature called “App Shortcuts” is back on the road. You can now press and hold an app icon and you’ll get a list of specific actions.

Third-party developers are currently working on the integration of this update to their apps. Google-owned apps is already supporting this feature, as per Digital Trends.

There is more emojis for both male and female. Image Keyboard, another new feature, let’s you choose emojis to use within third-party apps like Messenger and other messaging apps. There is also a brand new “Camera” app, with Automatic Exposure and Automatic Focus locking.

While Android’s focus is on communication, iOS’ focus is on streaming and entertainment and ease of use with other devices. The same with Android, iOS includes 70 new emojis. Some of the new emojis are “I don’t know”, “fingers crossed”, “shrug”, a male dancing equivalent to the red-dress-wearing female dancer, and more, as per TechRadar.

There is also the new feature called “Preserve Settings” for the camera that lets the users keep their favorite camera settings after closing the camera app. Another update is the “TV” app. You can watch every video that you want, from all the sources that you know, in just a tap of this app. No need for so many streaming apps.

So what’s the best?
Apple’s iOS shares have seen growth after the release of iPhone 7. But Android phones still dominate the market and is used by more manufacturers all around the world. It is still too early to decide as speculations about Apple’s 10th anniversary “big bomb” will come in 2017.
