One Direction shocked the world and disappointed many fans, as a shocking footage of Louis Tomlinson and his bandmate Zayn Malik smoking marijuana leaked on Tuesday, May 27. The British boy band now responds to the scandal.

In the video clip, which appears to have been filmed by Tomlinson himself on the Peru leg of 1D's "Where We Are" world tour, the two singers undoubtedly destroy their innocent reputation, seemingly going more towards bad boy image. They are seen sitting in the back of a car, lighting up and smoking a roll-up cigarette, and making jokes about "joints," "illegal substances" and "Mary J."

"So here we are, leaving Peru. Joint lit. Happy days!" Tomlinson says before asking his bandmate, "What do you think about that kind of content?" Malik replies: "Very controversial."

"One very, very important factor of Zayn's warm up -- of course, it's Mary J herself," Louis Tomlinson then reveals, while Zayn Malik in a Bob Marley t-shirt blows smokes into the camera.

When a police escort approaches near to the car later in the video, Tomlinson looks out and says: "One nil bitch! Look at this b*tch! He's having a look. He's thinking, 'I'm sure I can smell an illegal substances in there.' And he's hit the nail on the head."

Ever since the footage emerged online, Directioners took Twitter to express how "worried" they are about their idols, while other furious fans reacted by burning their tickets to the upcoming One Direction concerts in protest.

The "Midnight Memories" hitmakers responded to the controversy, however fans were certainly not happy about their initial response. Instead of the two band members personally addressing the video, a representative for 1D just released a statement, which did not include any explanation or apology. "The matter is in the hands of our lawyers," the rep said, solely focusing on the person who might have leaked the clip.
