It's down to just two athletes for the cover of the annual Madden Football video game. Richard Sherman, a Super Bowl Champion, and Cam Newton, a star quarterback, are the finalists.

Sherman dominated all rounds to get to the finals.

In round one, Sherman faced Chicago Bears wideout Alshon Jeffery. Nearly 700,000 votes were logged, and Sherman took this one easily, gaining 73 percent of the votes.

In the second round, Sherman faced New Orleans Saints tight end Jimmy Graham. Graham is extremely popular and should have given Sherman more of a challenge, but again Sherman took this one easily. With 606,652 votes logged, Sherman gained 65 percent of the votes and moved on.

In the third round, Sherman took on San Francisco 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Kaepernick has transformed the 49ers team into a playoff contender every year. He's appearing in commercials and tearing up defenses across the league, but out of 688,908 votes, he only earned 35 percent of the vote. Sherman moved on again.

Newton's journey to the finals wasn't as dominating as Sherman's.

In the first round, Newton easily took care of Pittsburgh Steelers wideout Antonio Brown. Newton gained 80 percent of the votes and Brown only 20 percent.

After round one, it wasn't smooth sailing for Newton though. Newton took on Kansas City Chiefs running back Jamaal Charles. Newton was able to edge out Charles 58 percent to 42 percent among 608,297 votes.

In the third round, Newton faced a fellow young quarterback in Andrew Luck of the Indianapolis Colts. Another scare for Newton occurred in this round too. Luck gained 44 percent of the votes, and Newton logged 56 percent.

That sets up a final matchup of Newton and Sherman. The winner will appear on the cover of Madden 15. The annual football simulator usually comes out by August. Voting began Friday and goes through June 6. Each round averaged about 600,00 votes or so, but it's expected that over one million voters will log on to vote for the finalists.
