Selena: The Series on Netflix has found its star, Christian Serratos, but can she live up to the high expectations?

According to Remezcla, Christian Serratos will take on the lead role of portraying the life of American singer-songwriter Selena Quintanilla who was popularly known as Selena. The series which will be shown on Netflix will also feature Julio Macias (On My Block), Jesse Posey (First Love, Stitchers), Carlos Alfredo, Jr. (Mutt and Chopps), Daniela Estrada and Hunter Reese Peña (Morning Ritual).

Serratos is known for her roles in The Walking Dead and the Twilight series. Selena, also known as the Queen of Tejano, had a long list of hits such as Bidi Bidi Bom Bom, Como La Flor and Amor Prohibido. Even after her death, the "Dreaming of You" and "I Could Fall in Love" songs went on to become hits. In her young life, she was able to win the Grammy Award for best Mexican-American album at age 23.

Jeniffer Lopez, who played Selena in a 1997 biopic, claims that the role remained significant in her career. The movie made a decent $35 million at the domestic box office which was considered high during that time. Lopez's camp believes she was snubbed by the Academy Awards after receiving nomination in the Golden Globe, Variety reports.

Chris Perez, the husband of the late singer, only watched the biopic after more than 20 years. Perez praised Lopez for her portrayal of his late wife. The whole family of Selena is supportive for the new Netflix series. The father, sister and family attorney are part of the production as executive producers.

Suzette Quintanilla, Selena's sister, is excited about the project. "With this series, viewers will finally get the full history of Selena, our family, and the impact she has had on all of our lives," she added in an article from Oprah Mag.

Daniela Estrada will play Suzette, while Daniela Estrada will play the young Selena. There have been efforts to relive the life and greatness of the former pop star. Her last concert is available on Amazon Video while J.Lo's movie will soon be available on HBOMax.

Selena tragically died on March 1995 after Yolanda Saldívar, a fan club president, shot her from behind. On the other hand, the series will reportedly focus more on her ascent to superstardom, the early struggles and the dynamics of the household when Selena was younger.

Posey will take on the role of Chris Perez who played in the Selena y Los Dinos as a guitarist and Selena's husband. Fans will have to watch to see how the couple tried to hide things so as not to upset the singer's father.

Selena: The Series has no confirmed date of release yet but reports suggest it will be shown on Netflix in November 2020. Hiromi Kamata is the director of the first part of the series while Moisés Zamora will serve as the writer and executive producer.
