The Dallas Mavericks will be very busy this summer since they are expected to retool their roster in hopes of improving their title chances next season.

Multiple reports indicated that the Mavericks will make a strong push to land one of the big-name free agents this summer, including Miami Heat superstar LeBron James and New York Knicks forward Carmelo Anthony, who could both test free agency this summer.

Mavericks beat writer Eddie Sefko said he believes that James will not consider moving to Dallas, and Anthony could strongly consider teaming up with All-Star forward Dirk Nowitzki; Dallas will face strong competition, however, as several teams are expected to lure the Knicks superstar.

"Carmelo and LeBron are probably going to opt out and become free agents to see what's out there. I don't see any way LeBron ends up here, but Carmelo is a different story. He's going to have lots of options, the line is going to be long for that guy," Sefko said.

Sefko also said that Anthony, who averaged 27.4 points to go along with 8.1 rebounds and 3.1 assists last season, is exactly the type of player the Mavericks need. But if the Mavs fail to land the 30-year-old forward, Sefko expects Dallas to go after free agent forward Luol Deng, who he said is a more realistic option this summer.

"Even though he's not a 'winner,' people say he's a good basketball player and a good scorer," Sefko said of Anthony. "So that's what the Mavericks need. And I think they can go after him, but I do think a more realistic target is Luol Deng or someone of that ilk."

Deng, who will also become an unrestricted free agent this summer, averaged 16.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game with the Chicago Bulls and the Cleveland Cavaliers this season.

Dallas News columnist Kevin Sherrington agreed with Sefko's take on Deng, saying that the Mavericks should go after the 10-year veteran small forward, who could help Dallas improve on both ends of the floor.

"I think you go to somebody like that, he gives you things that you need because I don't think that Shawn Marion's coming back," Sherrington said. "This is a guy who is a good small forward, a good two-way forward, he plays defense. This is like a younger version of Marion that you'd be getting here. I think it's absolutely imperative they get a guy like that."
