Latina stars Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be performing in the Superbowl which is very important for U.S. Latinos. 

This is the very first time two Latina stars will perform together on the stage of the Superbowl halftime show.The performance is said to last up to 12 minutes. Jennifer Lopez and Shakira will be making history.

JLo and Shakira spoke to reporters from around the world at a hotel in Miami on Thursday and called their upcoming performance a very important moment for Latinos in the United States.

The two stars said that their performance is an opportunity to convey a message of strength for the Latino community as well as women. JLo said that she will be thinking of her daughter and other women watching them performing in the Superbowl Halftime show, and will remain an inspiration for them all.

Lopez said: "Two Latinas doing this in this country at this time is just very empowering to us," while Shakira added, "It's very important for us to convey a message of unity and also to show what a relevant force the Latin community is in this country." 

According to a report in NBC News, the stars said that their Superbowl halftime show will have a strong message that honors their Latino roots and will also pay tribute to NBA superstar Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna.

Latinos have been credited for the stunning rise of Miami as a cultural hub and a global destination in recent decades. Latinos have settled in the place for the last half-century. From the Cuban-Americans since the early 1960s to Venezuelan, Dominican, Colombian, and Puerto Rican communities.

Some said that Miami is Latin America's northernmost city. Meanwhile, Shakira said: "Miami is a city full of energy, home to the Latino community," Moreover, Shakira lived in Miami before she decided to move to Barcelona where she is now raising her two boys.

Jennifer Lopez, who is of Puerto Rican descent, was raised in the Bronx, while Shakira in Barranquilla, Colombia. The two stars said that they never imagined when they were kids that they will one day perform at a Superbowl event. Shakira said: "I think it's a palpable example that everything is possible and that we have to dream big and fight with discipline and hard work."

Shakira, a worl-reknowned megastar who is also a three-time Grammy award winner. This isn't Shakira's first time on the stage of a major sporting event. As you may recall, she performed at the 2010 and 2014 World Cups. At present, she is building her tuition-free school for low-income families in her hometown in Barranquilla. 

Meanwhile, Jennifer Lopez has won multiple awards and was just recently nominated for a Golden Globe for her performance in the movie "Hustlerz." She has also produces and stars as one of the judges in the dance competiton television series, "World of Dance." She is also a well-known philanthropist who has helped the victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and many others.

Shakira said: "JLo and I are redefining paradigms about age, about race, about the background. It doesn't really matter how old you are or where you come from, what matters is the message, what you have to say."
