Latina Artists Showcase their Latino Roots

Latina artists had made great contributions to the entertainment industry. Winning in top music charts and other various types of awards, Latinas had proven that they can make it big in showbiz. 

In the past decade, people had witnessed the global shift in music by Latin artists. This had led to Latino artists recording music in the Spanish language, said an article from Billboard

Here are some Latina artists who had paid tribute to their Latino roots:

Camila Cabello

Camila Cabello was born in Havana.This Latina artist spent a few years of her life moving in different placed between Havana and Mexico City. Her family moved with her in the U.S when she became a U.S. citizen. 

She started her music career in the US with Fifth Harmony. Since many of her former band members had Latino heritage, they also sang songs in Spanish. Some of the songs they sang were the Spanish translated version of 'Worth It'.

When Cabello left the band to become a solo artist she sang the song 'Hey Ma' with other Latino artists J Balvin and Pitbull. During the Latin Grammy Awards in 2017, their song got nominated for the best urban song. There was also a Spanglish version of her famous song 'Havana.'

Christina Aguilera

After making the top charts in the 2000s, Christina Aguilera had used up the past decade to focus on her pop career. 

In 2010, she was able to return to Spanish-language music with the song 'Desnudate.' 

In 2012, this Latina artist was able to showcase her Ecuadorian roots as she sang another hit for a movie soundtrack named 'La Casa de Mi Padre.' 

She reached the top charts in 2013 with 'Hoy Tengo Ganas de Ti.' The song was a duet with the Mexican artist Alejandro Fernández. Their duet reached the top 5 in the Billboard's Hot Latin Songs chart.

 Mariah Carey

Mariah Carey is an African-Latina with Venezuelan heritage. In the past, she had shared that her grandfather changed his last name to 'Carey' when he entered the United States in the 90s. However, she said that her grandfather's real last name was 'Nuñez.'

Over her carer, she had also released Spanish-language songs such as her Spanish versions of 'Open Arms', 'Hero', and 'My All.' 

In 2013, she collaborated with Migues for a Spanglish song.

Cardi B

Cardi B is also an African-Latina with Dominican Republic heritage. Her career in the entertainment industry soared when she released her breakthrough song 'Bodak Yellow' in 2017. 

Cardi B had also released a collection of Spanglish songs such as 'Dinero' which she collaborated with Jennifer Lopez and DJ Khaled. She was also one the singers of the hit song 'Taki Taki'. She sang 'Taki Taki' with Ozuna, Selena Gomez, and DJ Snake.

Additionally, Cardi B sang 'I Like It' with Bad Bunny and J Balvin and the remix of 'Ahora Dice' of Chris Jeday.

One of her biggest Spanish hits was 'La Modelo' which she sang with Ozuna. The song reached the top 3 in the Hot Latin Songs Chart in 2018.
