Selena Quintanilla’s Final Days Facts

Selena Quintanilla was a Mexican-American singer who was known for her significant contributions to the music industry. When the Tejano superstar was on the peak of her career, her life tragically ended on March 31, 1995, according to an article from Biography

In the last few days of her life, Selena Quintanilla was able to make the most out of her success and created plans for her future. However, all of her plans were permanently halted by Yolanda Saldívar, her killer. Saldívar was also her fan club and fashion business manager.

A Month Before Selena's Death

In March 1995, Selena Quintanilla was excelling in the entertainment industry as a musician. Her performance for at least 60,000 people at the Houston Astrodome on February 26, 1995, had allowed her to become the largest performer in the said area during that year. 

On March 1, 1995, Selena attended the Grammy Awards held in Los Angeles. During that time, she received a nomination for the Best Mexican-American Performance. She received the nomination for her Amor Prohibido album. However, she was not able to win the awards.

She also planned on building a house with his husband Chris Perez. They planned to build their home in Corpus Christi, Texas. It would have been a great opportunity for them to live independently from her parents. Also, they planned to have children in the future.  

Conflict With Her Killer Three Weeks Before Her Death

In 1994, the Mexican-American singer had recently opened her new fashion boutique in San Antonio and Corpus Cristi. Her businesses offered originally designed jewelry and clothes. It also offered salon services. 

When 1995 came, her businesses had been experiencing financial difficulties. However, the results of her previous ventures did not prevent her from opening another clothing business in Monterrey, Mexico.

Yolanda Saldívar was the one who helped her manage her other businesses. Due to Saldívar's help with managing Selena's fans club, the Tejano singer's family developed a trusting relationship with her. However, Saldívar's relationship with the Quintanillas had been scarred when Selena's father heard the complaints of fans who said that they did not receive the items they had already paid. When the Quintanilla's confronted Saldívar, she was not able to explain the irregularities reported. It was also rumored that Saldívar had been taking the money of the boutiques without the knowledge of Selena and her family. 

Selena Found Out that Saldívar Possessed a Gun Two Weeks Before She Died

Although Selena Quintanilla did not want Saldívar to be her business partner, she did not stop her connections with her. Saldívar was authorized to access Selena's financial account. When Selena found out that some financial records were nowhere to be found, she demanded Saldívar to give it back.

The confrontation occurred in the car of Selena. Although Saldívar gave the singer some documents, it was incomplete. Also, Saldívar showed Selena that she carries a gun in her bag. 

It was told that Selena asked Saldívar to surrender her gun. Selena's killer listened and surrendered the gun. The gun was purchased on March 11, 1995, and was picked up by Saldívar after undergoing a background check. After meeting with Selena, Saldívar allegedly took the gun back to the store.
