2020 Women’s Month: Famous Mexican Female Athletes

Mexico has a good amount of history in the field of sports. In celebration of this year's women's month, let's look back at some of the famous female athletes who have shown that women too can succeed in the field of sports.

Here are a few female athletes who have given pride to Mexico in the Olympics:

Lorena Ochoa

This women's month, let's celebrate this Mexican athlete's contribution to the world of sports. Lorena Ochoa is a former Mexican professional golfer born on November 15, 1981. She was born in Guadalajara, Mexico. She participated on the LPGA Tour from 2003 to 2010. She is ranked first among female golfers in the world for 158 consecutive and total weeks says an article. This was from April 23, 2007, to May 2, 2010. She retired on May 2, 2010, at the age of 28.

She was the first Mexican golfer for both genders to be ranked on a top spot in the globe. Also, she is seen as the top golfer and the best Latin American golfer in the female genre for all time. In 2017, she was inaugurated in the World Golf Hall of Fame.

Ana Guevara

Ana Guevara's real name Ana Gabriela Guevara Espinoza. She was born on March 4, 1977. Her birthplace is in Nogales, Sonora. Before her retirement, she was a successful track and field athlete. She specialized in the 400 meters track and field. From 2012 to 2018, she served the country as a Senator in Mexico. Her parents are Ana María Espinoza and Cesar Octavio Guevara. Her siblings are Jaime, Daniela, César, and Azalia. Ana Gabriela Guevara had led LGBT movements after undergoing surgery to change her sex. Currently, she feels free being a man in the body of a woman. Let us appreciate the contribution of this female athlete in celebration of women's month.

Susan Escobar

Susana Escobar was born on December 13, 1987. Her birthplace was in Guanajuato, Mexico. She excelled as a swimmer in Mexico and an Olympian. Since October 2008, she had been attending and swimming for the University of Texas at Austin.

At the Olympic 2008, she had attained 3 records for Mexicans in three swimming events. The first one is the 400 free, the second is the 800 free, and the last one is the 400 IM.

Also, she swam at the Pan American Games held in 2007. Additionally, she participated in the World Championships in 2009 held in Rome. Moreover, she participated in the Summer Olympics in 2012. There, she competed in the freestyle 400m and the individual medley 400m.

Maribel Domínguez

Maribel Domínguez's full name is Maribel Guadalupe Domínguez Castelán. She is born on November 18, 1978. She is a retired Mexican footballer. She played games with the Chicago Red Stars in 2013 at the National Women's Soccer League. She was the lead scorer and captain of the country's national women's football team.

She is internationally known as 'Marigol.' She has a winning record of 46 goals in 49 games for the Mexican women's national team. She participated professionally in games with the United States, Spain, and Mexico. This Mexican female football player had joined a team in the Women's United Soccer Association or the WUSA. Her contributions to the world of sports id worthy of recognition in the celebration of women's month.
