The global death toll on coronavirus has reached 9,303 as of March 19. Thus it is understandable for most consumers to rush at a grocery store and buy goods and other necessities that will help survive the pandemic.

Take It

The US Department of Homeland Security suggests each household to store at least 2 weeks supply of food and water. They also suggest periodic checks on prescription drugs to be conducted to ensure that enough supply is available.

First aid kits should also be available anytime that it is needed, American Red Cross says. At home first aid kits should include antibiotic ointments for wounds, aspirin, gauze, sanitizers etc.

Leave It

When people are in a panic, it is understandable for them to grab anything that they think they need at that time. To prevent this from happening, planning ahead is essential.

First, think of foods that you actually eat. You don't want to waste a penny for a canned beef stew that you will never eat.

Next, you may think that you need a mask but maybe you don't. However, if you or someone you live with is sick, then this is necessary. Also, only buy masks if you are to go out and be exposed to a number of people.

Another one is unnecessary cleaning supplies. They are expensive. Plus all you need during a pandemic is bleach to clean up your home, furnitures and other items that might have been exposed to the virus and soap to pratice personal hygiene.

Finally, air filters. Air filters may help improve air quality but they do not have the right micron to kill viruses such as the coronavirus.

What Else to Do

The World Health Organization along with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention encourages every individual to practice social distancing at the moment. The virus at hand can easily be transmitted through the air thus keeping a safe distance from everyone will help slow down the increase of its confirmed cases.

Frequent hand washing and boosting one's immune system is also a good way to protect yourself from the virus.

Covid-19 can easily spread through respiratory droplets thus coughing and sneezing in public should be eliminated. It can also spread when a non-infected person touches an object previously touched by an infected one, then touches their nose, mouth or eyes.

Anyone with a travel history on infected cities and countries is recommended to seek medical assistance immediately. A 14-day Self-quarantine is suggested if you suspect being exposed to someone who is infected but shows no symptoms at all.

Symptoms of the virus include fever, cough, colds, and in worst scenarios, difficulty in breathing. The virus started in Wuhan, China and continuously dominate other countries.

The mortality rate of the virus is low. The death rate is higher the older the person is. So far, there are no reported casualties between 0 to 9 years old across the globe.
