Shooting Incident at Arizona Shopping Complex
Three persons got injured after the shooting incident in a suburban Phoenix shopping and entertainment complex on Wednesday night according to the police authorities. One of the victims is in critical condition while the two got minor injuries.
The shooting was over by the time that Police Officers arrived at Westgate Entertainment in Glendale, Arizona just minutes after 7:25 p.m. according to Glendale Police Officer Tiffany Ngalula. The suspect was challenged by the police officer and luckily they were able to take the person into custody safely.
The identity of the suspect was not yet revealed as the investigations are still on going on the terrorist attack. The Glendale Police Department posted on their Twitter account and wrote: "Please stay out of the #Westgate area. Preliminary info from our dispatch is there were at least two persons struck by gunfire and one person is in custody. PIO is en route to the scene. Media staging for now will be West of the Arena."
Ngulala said that people living near the area were already told to shelter as part of the precautionary search since one of the suspects is still at large. Some residents also said that they were getting reverse calls from 911 telling them to stay inside their homes.
Meanwhile, Ngulala is asking anyone who might have recorded to shooting incident to cooperate and help them or discovered a social media video related to the incident that may help solve the alleged terrorist attack and to identify the other suspect.
Westgate Entertainment Released a Statement
Westgate Entertainment District said in a statement they released from another news outlet that they were "deeply troubled by this incident and our thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families."
They also added: "Westgate will continue to work closely with the Glendale Police Department and in-house security to best ensure the safety of our customers, tenants, and residents," Additionally, the Westgate is located just 15 miles from Phoenix.
Ngulala also told the reporters that "With a scene of this magnitude, we are going to take our time with secondary searches."
Moreover, one of the employees near the shooting incident area told the police officers that he heard five shots before seeing people running away from the scene.
State Senator Witnessed the Shooting Incident
State Senator Martin Quezada of Arizona said that he had seen the attack. On his Twitter account he wrote: "I just witnessed an armed terrorist with an AR-15 shoot up Westgate."
In a statement he released on Wednesday night, he said: "has been an outspoken advocate for gun reform and is deeply shaken and saddened to have witnessed such a horrible tragedy in our nation yet again."
Arizona Governor also tweeted that the state's department of public safety has been in touch with the local police department to solve the alleged terrorist attack.
