In 1962, Havaianas created the Tradicional flip flop inspired by the Japanese Zori. Havaianas travels back to its origins to reinvent the new Tradi Zori, a perfect mix between past and future to design a unique piece.

According to Footwear News, the traditional square-shaped silhouette was updated for the comfort of the user. The new design has a triple-layer EVA and rubber sole with fabric strap for enhanced support for your feet.

Fernanda Romano, Havaianas CMO, explained that Tradi Zori shows the future of Havaianas. "We're challenging the idea that flip flops are just for the beach and igniting a change in perception," Romano said. "While paying homage to the brand's heritage, this new silhouette is a drastic departure from Havaianas' classic styles and introduces a new form of cultural expression."

Leonardo Boin Fujiska, the designer of Tradi Zori said that the creative process started when he had a trip to Japan and saw several people wearing Zoris with the traditional kimono in the middle of Tokyo.

Fujiska thinks of Havaianas' origin and the Japanese culture. The idea make Fujiska be inspired to recreate the Zori for Havaianas and bring the concept to the urban cities around the world. "Tradi Zori is a true re-imagination of the category," the designer said.

In the early '60s the Brazilian footwear became the same as the look for Brazilian workers. The company registered the license of the rubber flip-flop in 1996. The rubber flip-flop is the only footwear with a strap decorated with two parallel threads. Havaianas flip-flop was initially been blue and white only. But a green version was released due to manufacturing mishaps.

Tradi Zori is available at selected Havaianas stores. The style is limited edition footwear cost $80. It is available in seven colorways, which was inspired by the most popular color combinations over the history of Havaianas.

According to BBC, Havaianas sells about 200 million pairs each year. Domestic and international production is a phenomenon. The company has whole shops dedicated to the footwear brand.

On Twitter, Havaianas tweeted, "Havaianas embodies Brazil's fun, vibrant & spontaneous way of life," The famous Brazilian flip-flop has a strong identity that helped it hold its own against the replications of the designs.

BBC's South America Business Correspondent Daniel Gallas said that Havaianas kicked off in the 1990s. Gallas said, "The company created different prototypes, accepted branding partnerships. With a few tweaks, a product costing ten reais [£2, $3] could be sold for ten times that amount."
